Superfood is a group of products in which the concentration of nutrients exceeds the concentration of nutrients in 99% of other foods. Superfoods are commonly referred to as something between food and medicine.

Superfood’s description and definition sounds as if you’re reading about some super healthy supplement, but it’s still considered to be food.

What kind of superfood is there?

Superfoods are: roots, seeds, leaves, seaweed, berries and other plant parts that are used in the form of powders, juices and extracts. They grow, usually in remote places of the planet like the Amazon and Tibet, but you do not have to drive so far in order to

get them: the most common products of this category can be easily ordered online or bought in health food stores. Convenient? Definitely!

The chemical composition of superfoods is not like of common food: it exceeds the concentration of protein, vitamins, minerals, essential acids, antioxidants and other nutrients with a minimum number of calories. Isn’t it great? You get a product that gives your body everything it requires and you don’t gain excess weight. That’s fantastic, if you ask me.

A list of diseases that supposedly can be avoided by eating superfoods can take half of this article, so let’s not dwell on that. But generally speaking, by eating superfoods you become stronger, more energetic, more fit and healthier.

But that’s not it. The beauty industry has seriously shifted its focus to superfoods, moving it from grocery shelves right into jars of creams and shower gels. Skincare, haircare and other -care products supposedly stimulate the growth of nails and hair, while improving the skin color and getting rid of acne, rashes and allergies on the skin.

There are warning signs like aches, soreness, and persistent pain. It is therefore up to you to heed these signs because if you don’t, you could hurt something else as you try to change your gait to compensate for the pain.

GET GOOD SHOES AND TRACK YOUR SHOES’ MILEAGE

To avoid injuries, a runner need s to have the right shoes which should be replaced every three hundred to five hundred miles depending on the size of the person. You should have a training log to keep a record of when you bought the shoes so that you will know when it is time for a change.

There is no single best shoe for every runner. Therefore, your goal is to find the one that offers the best support and fit your unique anatomy and biomechanics.

While buying shoes, don’t necessarily go for the cheapest. Compare a car with worn out tires, these decrease the performance of the car and can easily cause an accident. An athlete can be defined by the kind of shoes they wear because they are a determining factor in the performance of the athlete.

Worn out shoes can often lead to a lot of pain in the knees, ankles and hips.

Hurry has no blessings. So, by rushing the process, you could break down rather than build up.

This can be compared to formula one racing cars which have speedometers where you cannot just jump to peak speed but rather you increase speed gradually because if you do not, they break down and stop.

TAKE GOOD NOTES

A comprehensive detailed workout log can help you to keep motivated and injury- free. Taking good notes entails you jot down what you did and what you felt. For instance your workout log can contain:

How you feel before, during and after the run.

Weather conditions

Distance covered

Daily or weekly goals

Workout time in minutes

Mode of exercise

People you train with

Route and terrain

The above notes can help you not only evade running injuries but also injuries that may come from insecurities which

may arise when one is working out in insecure environments like forests and lonely parks.

Taking good notes also helps one determine the best routine that suits them comfortably while at the same time building one’s confidence when one sees all the miles they have covered. It also eases the next workout when you see how much you have accomplished.

CROSS – TRAIN

This is training in different sports like swimming, cycling, elliptical training, and rowing to burn a lot of calories and boost your aerobic fitness.

Cross – training activities also benefit one to improve muscle balance and stay injury- free. Cross – training can help you stay fit when you can’t run.

Some common running injuries and the safe cross – training activity

Planter Fasciitis – swimming, rowing machine and stationary bike.

IT- Band Syndrome (ITBS) – elliptical and rowing machine and swimming.

Runner’s Knee – swimming and depending on the severity of the Injury, stationary bike.

Achilles Pain – swimming, stationary bike and rowing machine.

Stress fractures -swimming a depending on the severity of the injury, stationary bike can be safe.

DRINK UP

When one is properly hydrated, it helps prevent muscle cramps. Avoid becoming dehydrated before the run or during the run as this will lead to depletion of potassium which is needed in order for the muscles to relax after they have contracted.

You increase your chances for cramping in the calves, quads or hamstrings when you run with low potassium levels.

HAVE A GAIT ANALYSSIS DONE

A gait analysis, usually done by coaches is where they make you run on a treadmill or outside and analyze how your foot lands when you run.

Whether you roll inward, outward, or have very little or no role and the coach determines whether you need a neutral stability, or motion control shoe.

HAVE MORE THAN ONE PAIR OF RUNNING SHOES

Having more than one pair of shoes ensures that you extent the life of your shoes. For example, you could have one pair suitable for longer runs and a lightweight pair for your faster speed works.

Can also be helpful when you have had a rainy or muddy run while one pair is drying, you can run in the alternate pair. This will also keep the feet fresh and healthy.

ONLY RUN IN YOUR RUNNING SHOES

Ensure your running shoes are meant for running only and avoid sharing. Using the right shoe for running ensures comfort ability and avoids unnecessary injuries. For example, imagine how uncomfortable it would be running in gumboots which are meant for muddy terrain.

STRETCH, STRETCH, STRETCH, SRTETCH!

Dynamic stretching includes walking, an easy jog, butt kicks, side shuffles, walking lungs, and high knee. These should be done before and after running as it is very important in helping to prevent injuries.

While preparing for a run after sitting for long hours in the office or driving for long, your muscles become very tight. Therefore, it is important to loosen up by performing the dynamic stretches. If you still feel tight after these exercises, it is advisable to do some more of the more traditional static stretches which means you stretch and hold.

RESPECT THE RECOVERY PROCESS

In this case, proactive recovery methods are much more helpful because they ensure that you do not have too much damage in the first place.

The Stress- Adaptation Cycle illustrated below helps you remember that every workout you do is a stress that initially damages your body and only when you recover and adapt do you truly become a stronger, faster, and more resilient runner.

Proactive recovery works within this cycle and ensures that you only do the workouts that are appropriate to your fitness level.

Every workout that you run should be achievable, within your abilities, and realistic. “Stretch workouts” that may leave you sore for days compromise the recovery process as they spike your injury risk.

Do not attempt to complete the workout if you are feeling exhausted or overly sore or have a niggling pain.

To know if you should run or not:

If the level of soreness is light or you are just experiencing general fatigue, press on with your planned workout.

Should you be experiencing stabbing pain, you should not run.

When you have a moderate amount of dull or achy soreness, you should make your planned run easier.

RUNNERS NEED TO BE STRONG FOR AN INJURY- FREE RUNNING

Runners need strength running since they not only work the legs but also the upper body. Injury prevention includes more than just strength exercises. Most runners who do not string together a few months of consistent training due to chronic injuries end up not doing any strength work

Compare what would happen if you put the engine of a May Bach Landoulet in a Peugeot. This would tear the chassis apart.

Injury prevention will also help one to become a more efficient runner so you lose less energy and ultimately run faster.

AVOID BORING RUNS

Bored running means that you do the same distances, in the same shoes, at the same paces, on the same route, while training for the same race. The racing goals remain the same from year to year.

With that kind of repetition, repetitive overuse injuries are therefore so common. Variations will have tremendous impact. For example, one can do small changes to paces, running surface and terrain and having different types of workouts to reduce the repetitive stress of running.

You can avoid the repetitive stress of running by:

Getting off the roads and sidewalks to run more hills and trails.

Running workouts that include paces of maximum effort sprinting to very easy and comfortable runs.

Rotating two or more shoes as this will alter your biomechanics and the stress experienced by your feet and the lower legs.

Rotating a more minimalized shoe can help you build more strength and alter the way your foot interacts with the ground. The aim here is to accomplish foot strength and reinforcing proper running form.

A whole foods diet is so much more nutritious than a diet of processed foods. Processed foods, for the most part, are just pure junk. Many of the health conditions we encounter are a direct result of a processed foods or junk food diet. By eating healthy whole foods, we give our bodies the nutrients needed to build a strong immune system and stay healthy.

If we can go back to eating the simple diets that people age a century ago we would be much healthier. People a century ago worked the land, grew their own fruits, vegetables and meat. They ate fresh whole foods and canned foods without using harsh preservatives and excessive sugar and processed flours. It was when people started eating more processed and refined foods that people’s health started declining. By avoiding these junk foods we are better able to stay on top of having good health. A whole grains diet is a healthy lifestyle and one that should be adopted permanently.

Eating whole foods means replacing processed grains (refined grains) for whole grains. It means including fresh fruits, vegetables, beans, and “good” fats instead of swallowing vitamin and mineral supplements. Deriving the nutrients from the foods is the best way to give the body a good dose of these vital vitamins and minerals. Eating a whole food diet means you will replace things like processed chicken nuggets with your own whole chicken breast, seasoned with real herbs. Replace “chips” with the healthy counterparts. Whole potatoes should replace potato chips, etc. No more eating quick and convenient foods like toaster pastries, instead you will eat whole grain bread and 100% fruit spreads.

A diet of whole foods sets the body up for improved health and a stronger immune system. A stronger immune system will help to treat and prevent illnesses. Whole foods come from nature and are healthy and complete in their natural form. Whole foods are packed with healthy nutrients, fiber, minerals, and phytochemicals. Processed foods are depleted of most of these nutrients.

Whole foods are becoming a very popular “trend” these days with the “whole foods” grocery stores springing up all over the country. Farmer’s markets, health food stores and even regular grocery’ stores now carry more choices with fresh wThole foods making it easier to go on and stay on a whole foods diet. People are once again recognizing the virtues of eating a diet of the very foods the earth produces naturally.

Whole foods groceries and grocery sections are the fastest growing and most popular type of grocery stores, offering a “farmer’s market” type of experience in places where farmer’s markets may not exist. There is even a grocery store chain in the USA aptly named “Whole Foods.”

Nutrition experts claim that eating whole foods is better because…

Whole foods are absent of the ingredients that make processed foods so harmful. Ingredients like excessive refined sugars and flours, and added fats are the very ingredients that cause us so many health issues like weight gain, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure not to mention the added calories. Whole foods are absent of these nasty ingredients and therefore are a much healthier choice in our diets.

Whole foods are high in fiber, which processed foods are not. High fiber helps the body to function better. The digestive system needs the fiber to help keep it clean and keep it moving along, as it should, without the fiber the digestive tract becomes gunked and this gunk can become toxic. Eating foods high in fiber helps with weight maintenance because fiber helps the stomach to feel full faster and keeps us from over eating. Fiber is good for the cardiovascular system and helps to treat illnesses such as diabetes.

While you can take fiber in supplements it is much better that the body receives the fiber straight from the sources with whole foods. Most whole foods contain both types of beneficial fiber – both insoluble and soluble – to help cleanse the entire body and help it to rid of toxins.

Whole foods contain good fats that are vital to our health. Processed foods contain saturated and trans fats, which can clog arteries and make us fat. Good fast found in plants and fish are healthy for the brain and for the immune system. The brain functions better when good fats are consumed. Good fats are found in olives, avocados, flax seeds, and fish.

The diets of today, which includes an abundance of processed “convenient” foods, are very short in the amount of nutrients the body needs in order to be healthy. Unless people take supplements with their junk food diets they are at risk for deficiency in certain vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, and even fiber. Rather than taking supplements, it is better to eat whole foods and get just the amount of each of these nutrients the natural way.

Phytochemicals, also called phytonutrients, are plant food components that are biologically active. Lycopene is such a nutrient that is a very strong anti-oxidant found in tomatoes. Blueberries and other berries have anthocyanin’s and pterostilbene, which helps to lower cholesterol naturally.

It is better to receive the phytochemicals direct from the foods you eat. There may be other phytochemicals that are yet discovered in plants that are not found in supplements. This makes a solid case for eating a whole food diet where you can be sure your body is receiving all the nutrients it needs.

Whole grains are another healthy food that gives more than just a natural source of fiber. Whole grains have a plethora of nutrients including anti oxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins, minerals, as well as healthy fiber. Diabetics have found that diets high in whole grains help them to control their blood glucose levels. Whole grains are a natural means to help lower cholesterol levels.

When going on a whole foods diet you want to include choices that offer whole grains. Try replacing white flours with whole wheat flour. Try using natural sweeteners over refined sugars. Choose your fruits and vegetables from the “farmer’s market” and “whole foods” section rather than in processed convenient packages. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be eaten every day. Choose fresh whole foods for snacks over junk food.

Do you realize how sick our society is because of the diets we consume? Eating too much processed foods is very unhealthy to our body and especially to our immune system. It is because processed foods or junk foods lack the proper and vital nutrients our body needs in order to be strong and healthy. Whole foods contain just the perfect amount of nutrients we need. If we eat well-balanced meals in moderation, we will gain all the vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals we need in order to be as healthy as possible.

You do not need to go to an over-priced ‘health foods’ store to purchase fresh whole foods. These foods are easily readily available at most grocer}’ stores and “super” stores. It depends on how you shop as much as what you choose to eat. Whole foods diet means just that, you eat the foods whole. Instead of processing the foods, like turning grains into flour, you choose to eat foods with whole grains. Instead of buying a box of instant mashed potatoes, you choose to buy whole potatoes and cook with these. Instead of drinking a juice cocktail, you choose to eat a piece of real fruit. It is all about choices.

By switching to a whole foods diet plan means you are developing a healthier lifestyle. If you wish to become healthier, the first thing you should change is your diet. Instead of trying to follow a complicated diet plan it helps to simplify it by choosing to eat whole foods, which are natural made. Whole foods are nature’s best remedy to building a healthy body.

Whole foods help to treat and prevent some of the biggest health issues people face, those of cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, and type 2 diabetes. The diet helps to build a strong cardio vascular system by keeping the arteries clear and the blood pressure and cholesterol levels normal. It helps to fight and prevent certain cancers by strengthening the immune system. If the immune system is strong, it is able to fight the free radicals, which can cause cancer. The anti-oxidants in whole foods help with the immune system. Whole foods help to

stabilize and keep the blood glucose levels in check and at normal ranges.

Whole foods are packed with all the nutrients the body needs from fiber to vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and fiber. All these work together to help make the body healthier. Many of these can be taken in supplement form, but research has showTi that deriving the nutrients needed from the foods we eat is much better. The body knows how to pull the nutrients from the foods and it all works with the systems in our body to help us function at optimum capacity.

As stated above, whole foods are food in their natural state, without being processed. Food is better in the whole state than if it has been cut up and processed, and all the nutrients leached from it. Whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and even meat are better if left whole. The recipes in this book call for whole healthy foods that have not been processed. Eating a whole foods diet will help the body to maintain better weight level as well as maintaining a completely healthy lifestyle.

By eating whole foods you are gaining all the nutrients the body needs within one meal. This is better “synergy” for the body, to derive all the nutrients from the foods we eat rather than from swallowing it in supplement form.

There have been research that shows when supplements such as vitamin E and selenium are taken in supplement form they do not show as great results with health as they do when consumed within the foods we eat. Experts believe the reason the body responds better to nutrients derived from the foods we eat is that the nutrients work together. It could be that anti oxidants like vitamin E works with the phytochemicals and minerals with the same foods the vitamin E came from. This makes sense and makes it imperative that we eat healthier diets.

Your health care provider should approve any diet change. If you are on any medications or special regimen, they need to advise you on your dieting needs. While whole foods are the best foods that nature provides you will probably receive the go ahead to try such a diet. All the recipes within this book are healthy, each one calling for ingredients that includes healthy whole foods the way nature presents it. The side effects of a whole foods diet is a strong health immune system and the ability to wTard off germs and illnesses. Other side effects include improved health if you do have health issues such as better weight levels, normal cholesterol, and possibly normal blood pressure and blood glucose levels.

Do you know what a retardant is? Think of a flame retardant for example, they are sprayed on things to slow the spread of fire on clothing right? In the woods ditches or gullies are dug to help create a man made (as if chemicals aren’t) fire retardant. Think of mental retardation (don’t make fun of them, no jokes for this one), what is it? It’s a slow development, especially on the cognitive and mental aspects, right? Arginine does the same thing!

How does arginine act as a retardant you may be wondering and why is slowing things down cooler than diabetics needing a snack before bed? What if I told you it slowed down the growth rate of cancer and tumor cells? Dead serious, oh you’re interested now? It does this by enhancing your natural immune function, it does this by making your thymus gland a little larger and far more active. It may sound scary, but guess what your thymus gland does, it releases T cells (T lymphocytes) which are

extremely important in the function and maintenance of a healthy immune system.

Who else could benefit from have a more active thymus gland, what about people with autoimmune issues, sort of like AIDS? Will arginine cure AIDS? No, but if it helps prolong life by again retarding the spread or severity of AIDS by increasing the overall immune punches your T Cells have, you’d be in better shape.

That’s not all that arginine does for your body, that’s not even the start. Maybe you’re not worried about cancer or AIDS (nothing wrong with being celibate, maybe I have a nun reading this), so you could be wondering if arginine does anything for you. No problem, does your liver work and if so would you want it to keep working? Arginine helps in this area as well.

I consider arginine to be a “child” amino acid in the regard to liver. A good child helps their parents, right? Arginine helps the liver, which makes it (see my “child” amino relation? Parents make child, child helps parent and liver makes arginine, arginine helps liver?) sort of like the liver’s child in a freakish way. Arginine helps the liver in a few ways. It helps with liver disorders like a fatty liver (making it easier to filter and produce) as well as with cirrhosis. How does it do this stuff? Do you remember when I mentioned ammonia and how it turns into urea? What arginine does is it aids in the detoxification of the liver by going after and neutralizing the ammonia.

Arginine is really all encompassing if you ask me, not only does it help a vital organ and promote a super powered immune system, arginine is also great helper when it comes to muscle metabolism! Think of arginine as sort of a trash truck for your muscles, here’s how it does that. Imagine a big pile of trash that needs to go somewhere. You’d start loading the trash truck so it doesn’t create a massive pile and in turn result in problems, like a bad smell right? Arginine takes nitrogen and helps store it and when not needed, it dumps the nitrogen through excretion.

Helping maintain that nitrogen balance in your body, arginine does more than just getting rid of the waste, sometimes in a balanced equation you need more of something to keep the balance, right? It could also help you after surgery as it can improve the function of cells in your lymphatic system.

Are you wondering if we’re done with arginine yet, I mean I can’t blame you we’ve already touched on some real important factors. No, we’re actually really just getting started with the topic (or conversation if you’d rather use that word. Here’s something for all the vain people out there, or athletes working to alter their physique. Arginine also can help with weight loss!

Arginine can help with weight loss, if your mouth is on the floor and eyes wide open keep reading (and if you didn’t brush your teeth take 5 and knock that out, or close your mouth). Let me backtrack a bit (especially since I was a personal trainer), you’re not losing weight but you could lose fat. We already mentioned how arginine helps move nitrogen around when you have the stuff pumping through your muscles after they break right? Arginine also helps to rebuild that muscle mass slightly and can reduce area body fat.

What else is arginine important in, how about maintaining order in a household that would see some dangerous deficiencies if it was missing? There are functions that we need to maintain great health, and if arginine is not sufficiently being produced (what does it become? An ESSENTIAL amino acid, right) you will start seeing the negative effects. Lipid metabolism in the liver (fat), insulin production, glucose tolerance (start thinking blood sugar issues) are some of the functions that could go into a nosedive if arginine is lacking in your body.

Speaking of arginine lacking, do you know there are some who genetically have a problem producing arginine? Infants and toddlers can naturally have much lower levels as arginine production doesn’t come fully into the picture at birth and slowly begins to increase later through growth. Babies will have some arginine, it’s just that the levels they produce are more than likely going to be inadequate to keep up with the demands of the body. This is why you’ll notice some foods, such as soybean, dairy, carob, and other food sources recommended during breastfeeding.

I say during breastfeeding because it is not encouraged for mother’s to supplement with 1-arginine while they are breastfeeding. Babies aren’t the only ones who shouldn’t have 1-arginine supplements, people with oral herpes may want to look into lysine as compared to arginine, especially in the diet. It’s not just oral herpes either but a wide variety of viral infections as arginine could promote growth in the viral cells making them tougher to treat.

Now we’re done with arginine, and we’re going to start touching on one of the shortest bits of information about any amino acids.

Electric citrus juicers usually have two easily cleanable parts – the reamer and the basket. Non-mechanical citrus juicers are one solid piece.

Cold Press Juicer – crushes and compresses produce with an auger to extract juice. These work on the same principle as the old hand operated carnival juicers but with much more power.

Centrifugal Extractor – uses a high speed bladed disk to separate the juice from the pulp. They may also create low grade heat which may compromise sensitive enzymes and fragile proteins.

Here are some features to look for:

– See through containers with visible measurement markings

– A juice cup that sits well against the machine

– Cord storage area

– Dishwasher safe removable parts

– Dust cover

– Large chute to accommodate larger pieces of produce

Some of the Popular Brands

NutriPro – The Bella NutriPro uses bladeless cold press technology – one single auger presses the juice out instead of spinning it out. It has a sleek modern design but it’s still a bit large.

List Price: $359-99 but can be found for $199.95 at http://nutriprojuicer.com/

NutriBullet – Technically not a juicer, the NutriBullet uses high speed centrifugal force (cyclonic action) and a patented blade technology to rupture cell walls, crack seeds, extract juice and break down plant fiber. There’s no roughage left outside the machine. It’s all contained within the NutriBullet’s cup. The machine is a very compact countertop size with only the cup and the self contained screw on blade to wash.

You won’t get clear juice from this machine but a thick bio-available blend of the entire plant.

List Price: $119.94 at http://wvw.nutribullet.com/

Jack LaLanne Power Juicer – This brand of juicer comes in Classic, Express, Express Deluxe, Deluxe, and Pro models all using the extraction process. Power Juicer offers a lifetime warranty on its motor but most of the machines are a bit bulky’.

List Price: $99.98 to $149.97 at http://www.powerjuicer.com and at Amazon, Best Buy, Lowes, Overstock, Bed Bath and Beyond, EBay, and Wal-Mart.

Black and Decker JE2200B – Smaller and easy to dismantle but tends to leave a good amount of leafy material behind along with the fiber.

List Price: $59.99 at Macy’s.

Cuisinart CJE1000 – Claims to be very quiet and has a patented filter basket that reduces foam, 5 variable speeds, and a large fiber catch.

Their VRT400HDS is a masticating juicer that boasts a low speed to prevent oxidation, an automatic screen cleaning system, and a juice tap (just like a faucet) that allows you to juice all your ingredients and then fill your glasses. This juicer will even juice wheat grass and the juice can be left in the juicer for up to 72 hours, a real bonus for committed juicers.

Found in higher amounts throughout the body, glutamine is primarily found in skeletal muscle. There are a number of foods that contain high levels of this amino acid. Supplements with glutamine are often used to build or enhance muscle mass and treat certain medical conditions.

Within your system, this amino acid performs several functions, including production of protein. As previously mentioned, it plays an essential role in the proper functioning of your immune system. It also has a significant role in your brain function and digestion.

The majority of its users consume this product to enhance their exercise performance. Some of them use it to alleviate signs and symptoms of health conditions, like anxiety, depression, insomnia, ulcerative colitis and Chron’s disease.

Those who are undergoing chemotherapy can also benefit from this amino acid to protect them against the harsh effects of such treatment. Furthermore, patients who experienced traumatic injuries or surgery can take advantage of this amino acid.

Here is a list of health benefits that scientists were able to find. Even though research about the health benefits of taking a supplement with glutamine is very limited, some studies did suggest that such product can provide you with positive effects.

Improve athletic performance

In addition to creatine, glutamine is also widely used by bodybuilders and athletes to help them improve their sports performance. But because your body naturally makes it, it is not necessary for you to take such supplement, unless your dietary intake is not enough.

Most athletes do take this supplement to protect them against impairment related to strenuous exercise.

There were a few clinical trials conducted to look at the effects of this amino acid in sports performance. But, in one study published in the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, it was discovered that glutamine did not enhance the exercise performance of a group of male athletes.

Help in cancer treatment

In some studies, researchers were able to find a link between faster recover}’ of patients undergoing cancer medical treatment and intake of glutamine supplement. According to a report published in 1999, scientists noted that the supplemental use of this amino acid did help in offsetting glutamine depletion that occurred in cancer patients.

Furthermore, said report also noted that it prevented toxic effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

And it might increase the effectiveness of chemotherapy drugs.

However, the authors of said study cautioned patients about glutamine’s ability to stimulate growth of some tumors.

In another study conducted, researchers found that patients who underwent colorectal surgery have reduced their hospital stay by simply taking a glutamine supplementation.

Enhance brain function

When it is converted to glutamic acid, glutamine could enhance mental abilities of humans.

Improves immunity

Bodybuilders and athletes are more prone to infections, like colds and flu. This is usually the case because any type of exercise can cause glutamine levels in the body to decrease, leaving tissues vulnerable to illness. But supplementing your body with glutamine can help you stay healthy in spite of the new strains of flu virus.

There are other conditions that can be alleviated through the use of glutamine supplement. Some of them are related to digestion problems, stress, severe burns, and so on.

Because your body is made up of different organs and tissues, you will feel ill if one of them is compromised. But through the help of this type of supplement, you can prevent the effects of severe training while promoting good health.

They all refer to the well being of an individual that is measured beyond the physical aspect.

The real essence of health is captured in an individual’s level of fitness. Contrary to the common misconception, being healthy does not necessarily mean not being ill.

Health goes beyond the physical state; it touches on other divine aspects of a human being. These include the mind and spirit.

An individual with a relaxed mind and spirit enjoys a healthy life. To achieve a healthy life, it is necessary to keep fit. Fitness refers to a state were an individual is able to carry out daily activities without much ado owing to taking part in healthy activities.

There are a number of ways to keep fit. You have the freedom to choose a fitness method that best suits you. Ranging from diet to meditation, most of us have the tendency to choose methods that are not too involving. If this is your case, meditation is surely the best way to go.

Meditation is a friendly method of keeping fit. It does not necessarily require you to engage in stressful outdoor activities. The most effective indoor health associated activity is daily meditation process.

Your daily meditation process is the key to staying fit.

The key to successful meditation lays in discipline and consistency.

You should set aside time for meditation and adhere to it. It is also important for you to set a time period within which you will carry out your meditation.

For example you can meditate for 15 minutes in the morning before you start the day, and also just before retiring for the night

Your daily meditation does not only serve the purpose of relaxing your mind.

As you concentrate on your breath, you also improve other aspects of your life.

After meditating for a long period of time you are able to improve and lengthen your concentration span. This way you will apply this concentration in other aspects of your life that is health related.

Bodybuilding does not necessarily have to be associated with large men in their bulky physique. It can simply mean aiming to get in a much better shape. And in addition to workouts, diet plays a major role in achieving your muscle building goals. But the following superfoods can help you in this regard.

Broccoli

It is by far the most nutritious, healthiest vegetable. To get the maximum nutritional value from this superfood, cook it briefly or blanch it. You can add it to your bowl of chicken. It can be enjoyed along with a fat free Italian dressing too.

Spinach

Do you remember how Popeye chugs on spinach, and how he gets much stronger? Popeye knows just how important spinach is for muscle building with its calcium and vitamins content. It even helps prevent muscle cramping which may occur as you perform rigorous training.

Brown Rice

An excellent source of vitamins and minerals, brown rice also provides complex carbohydrates. This will absolutely help with your endurance as you go through your workout regimen.

Because of its versatility, you can prepare a brown rice meal however you like it. For instance, prepare it as a side dish. You can steam the rice and enjoy it with a pasta sauce. You can even spice it up with green pepper. Or better yet, you can enjoy it along with your skinless chicken breast.

Black Beans

They are equally perfect to help you meet your muscle building goals. Black beans provide caloric dense carbohydrate along with protein and fiber. It is also rich in Vitamins A, B, C, and K.

Moreover, it offers low saturated fat.

Garlic

This is another way of adding flavor to your muscle building diet. Garlic is considered to be an ultimate spice for its strong flavor. You can have as much as you want. Use it liberally when making mashed potatos so you can skip the gravy. You can use it on almost any type of dish you can think of.

Potatoes

Like brown rice, potatoes are also rich in complex carbohydrates. While it contains plenty of vitamins and minerals, it is lacking in fat, which another good thing about it. When preparing potatoes, it is recommended that you leave the skin on. This will make it more flavorful. You can fry it, bake it, or mash it.

Nuts

Almonds and walnuts specifically are a great source of healthy fat. Treat these nuts as snacks and never a meal, though. While they offer some benefits, you must only consume them in moderation. You can also add them to your chicken breast recipe or your tuna dish.

Olive oil

Both canola and olive oil contain low saturated fat. Use olive oil when frying your Cajun Seasoning covered tuna steak. And just like nuts, make sure you use olive oil in moderation.

Lentils

An excellent source of fiber and minerals, lentils contain great amounts of carbohydrate that can help slow burning. It is recommended to munch on some lentils after your workout, so you can help your body replenish the nutrients it has lost during training.

Salsa

A bodybuilder’s savior from otherwise bland food, salsa is low in calories and can be mixed with anything for added flavor. You can have it with your brown rice, tuna, chicken, or even with eggs.

Chicken

Chicken does you a lot of good, but this also means you have to skip the tasty part. Go for the skinless and boneless chicken breast. Chicken on your diet will greatly complement your workout program.

It is rich protein content and contains low amounts of fat. You will benefit from this as you perform vigorous physical exercises. This is extremely helpful with muscle recovery as well.

There are plenty of recipe options to make chicken bodybuilding friendly. You can coat it with seasonings, and bake it. A Thai Peanut Chicken mixed with rice noodles offers a healthy treat. You can also make chicken kabobs or prepare some buffalo chicken.

Tuna

Like Chicken, tuna can also provide you with nutrients. In addition, it contains omega 3 essential fatty acids which can help prevent coronary artery disease.

You can have tuna in a can or get yourself some fresh tuna steak. Make a burger with tuna, or mix it up with vegetables for a traditional salad. Take it easy on the dressing, though. When you go for the fresher option of tuna steak, sprinkle some Cajun seasoning and fry it.

Again, do not forget water.

When you are on a mission to build your muscles, it is very important that you are properly hydrated. An average person needs at least 8 glasses a day. If you are subjecting yourself to a more rigorous workout regimen, you will absolutely need more throughout the day.

If you do weekly long runs you are guaranteed finishing a race, injury permitting. The long run is the difference between a DNF and crossing the finish line.

Hill Training

Training on hills is a great way to build leg muscle stamina. Hills for running are a way of increasing resistance, like adding weight in strength training.

Hills provide greater resistance than level ground; the steeper the hill, the greater the resistance. You develop greater push off strength and power in your running stride with hill training. By increasing your stride strength and pow’er, you increase stride length. You will run faster and further when you increase stride strength and length.

When you incorporate hills into your conditioning program, use the same principles as any resistance training. Start with minimal reps, and allow plenty of rest in between workouts.

Do Squats

The squat is a compound, full body exercise that trains primarily the core running muscles. These are thighs, hips and buttocks, quads (vastus lateralus medialis and intermedius), hamstrings. It also strengths the bones, ligaments and insertion of the tendons throughout the lower body.

Squats are considered a vital exercise for increasing the strength of the legs and buttocks. Runners will get benefit by doing high repetition squats without added wreight.

Perform Dead lift to build upper body strength

As a runner, the focus of the upper-body w’orkout should be to gain muscular strength and remain lean. So, go with lighter weights and higher repetitions. Heavy wreights are for those interested in adding muscles. Dead lift keeps your upper body lean and light. The leaner and lighter you are , the faster you will run.

Do Core Exercises

Core exercises help to build strong abdominal and low-back muscles. Building the strength of these muscle will enhance your running performance and may reduce injur}’ risk. The best core exercises for runners are those that mimic the specific ways the core muscles are required to work during running.
