There are several different types of juicing machines on the market today and if you haven’t purchased a juicing machine in the past is could be a little confusing.

They obviously vary in type and pricing but remember you usually get what you pay for.

The Centrifugal Juicer

This juicer is at the lower end pricing-wise and is a good starting point if budget is tight. Centrifugal juicers are the most common types of juicers and are the ones you see advertised on TV and in stores.

Centrifugal means “(from Latin centrum, meaning “center”, and fugere, meaning “to flee”) is the apparent force that draws a rotating body away from the center of rotation” Wikipedia)

The “Centrifugal Juicer” will chomp your already sliced vegetables and fruit into much smaller pieces and then toss them onto a fast spinning grated disc. This causes a great deal of friction and produces massive heat. When juicing fresh produce it’s not advisable to produce heat or friction. This destroys precious enzymes and \itamins and so defeats the purpose of the fresh raw juicing. If your budget can cope I would recommend by-passing the Centrifugal style.

Some of the pros, and cons, of the centrifugal juicers are:

Pros:

They are usually quite affordable

They can be reasonably easy to clean

Cons:

They causes friction and heat when juicing

They tend to be a noisy.

They may have a shorter life span than some of the heavier duty machines They may not extract as much juice as the heavier models therefore producing more pulp and less juice.

Masticating Juicers

Masticating is the process by which food is crushed and ground to a pulp. It is the first step of digestion and it increases the surface area of foods to allow more efficient break down by enzymes.

When you chew your food this is an example of masticating your food. When you swallow your food your digestive system starts the process of breaking your food down and extracting the juice, nutrients and fibre.

The masticating juicers grind the fruit and vegetables into a pulp, extracting the juice and fibre. This is done at a slow speed and there’s no spinning action to create heat. This is also known as a “cold press process”.

We know that food is much better for you when eaten raw and that the heating up of food that tends to lose its nutrients and goodness.

Some of the pros, and cons, of masticating juicers are:

Pros:

Usually has a long life span with high quality parts available if needed

Usually has a long guarantee

Relatively easy to clean

Will make nut and seed butters

They will usually be more efficient at juicing green leafy vegetables such as wheatgrass, spinach, parsley, cilantro, kale etc.

Requires less vegetables and fruit to produce more juice therefore you will spend less money on fruit and vegetables

Can make diary free “ice-cream” from frozen fruits

Will tend to produce more juice and the pulp is drier

Will make fresh creamed baby foods – no need for commercial processed baby food.

They are more efficient at juicing your fruit and vegetables

They tend to be quieter in operation.

Cons:

Are usually a heavier machine and will take up valuable bench space.

It’s common knowledge that many people aren’t getting enough fruit and vegetables in their diet and having a raw juice daily will give you added and improved levels of nutrients. When you prepare the ingredients for a raw juice, whichever they may happen to be, you will probably find that if you were to try to eat the same amount of fresh and un-juiced fruit and vegetables you would not be able to consume that amount of food in one sitting. Whereas, if you juice that same amount of fruit and vegetables it would amount to one or two glasses of delicious and nutritious juice. Much easier to consume and gain the required nutrition.

Raw juices can be easier on your digestive system – allowing your body to absorb the nutrients in the raw juices more readily without working your digestive system as hard. When you eat either cooked or raw food that hasn’t been juiced it’s much harder on our digestive system. The process starts with the chewing action and producing saliva to start to break down the food you’re consuming.

Many nutritionists say that the more you chew your food the better digestion vou will have. As vou chew your food it will be broken down to a degree whereby your body will not have to work as hard to digest it. Therefore juicing is a much better option for getting nutrition into your body in the fastest and easiest way possible.

It is often easier to drink a raw juice and absorb the nutrients you require than eat the same amount of vegetables and fruit. When I’m preparing the amount of food to be juiced I usually have a casserole dish on the kitchen bench to hold the washed and prepared ingredients. I can then see exactly how much fruit and veg. will be put through the juicer and can ascertain how much juice will be produced.

It can be a lot easier to get children, and even some adults, to consume the required amount of fruit and vegetables in a raw juice than in the solid form. We all know that children – as well as some adults – can be very fussy eaters. A delicious and nutritious juice can overcome the traumas of being faced with a piece of broccoli or pumpkin someone has developed pre-conceived ideas about. You can even very sneakily, include an adequate amount of broccoli into the juice and disguise the taste with a sweet piece of apple or pineapple.

Fresh fruit and vegetables can have an amazing taste, especially if you are able to use the freshest organic available. If you experiment with the types of ingredients and the quantities you will find the exact taste that suits your individual requirements. There are many different tastes you can develop and at some stage you will discover the exact taste that appeals to your particular tastebuds. There’ll be no stopping you then.

Juices – especially vegetables juices – can greatly enhance your weight loss journey. Vegetable juices have less sugar content than fruit juices therefore juices with a higher vegetable content will be more beneficial in helping you lose weight combined with a properly balanced and selected diet.

Fruit is packed with fructose – a natural sugar – but all the same a sugar and unless used as energy will metabolise into fat. It is more beneficial to keep to mainly vegetable juices if you are wanting to lose those dreaded pounds.

Your body is able to absorb up to 99% of the nutritional value in a juice. There is less energy required to break down the food eaten thus allowing the body to work on absorbing the nutritional goodness in the juice. As the selected ingredients have been juiced there is then a concentrated supply of vital nutrients available for the body to process in the easiest and most available way.

You can vary the taste of the juice according to your individual liking by adding either water to dilute it, a piece of fruit to add the required sweetness or conversely another piece of vegetable to lessen the sweetness.

Juices can start to eliminate toxicity in the body and bring your body back to a more acceptable alkaline level. It’s a long known fact that our bodies are required to be more alkaline than acid in form to achieve optimal levels of health. By mainly consuming cooked or processed food we are eating food with a mainly acidic nature. By consuming more juices you are starting on a journey of returning your body to a more alkaline level and thus a healthier and more life sustaining lifestyle.

Due to the fast paced life-style many of us are leading now – coffee, tea, alcohol and prescription drug use along with smoking and polluted environments – we need to cleanse our body and rest the organs – especially the liver and gall bladder.

What we mean here is that these are juices designed to function a specific way to benefit the body. High antioxidant juices, energy juices, etc. are all designed specifically to affect the body a certain.

One of juices greatest effects is detoxifying. In fact, all liquids, whether it’s just pure water or one of these amazing juices, it will help to pull toxins out of your body.

Each of the juices listed below can help you accomplish a specific goal… and taste great while you do it.

Oxidizer Master

5 ounces blueberries

5 ounces strawberries

1 mango

1/2 sweet potato, cooked

This is a powerful anti-oxidant combination that can help to repair and prevent damage from toxins and ‘free radicals’ that get into your body.

Know How – Free Radicals and Anti-oxidants – Free radicals is the name given to oxygen atoms that are running around in your body. Just like when they make water by bonding to hydrogen and another oxygen to make water, these oxygen atoms are running around looking for something to bond. When the bond with the wrong atoms, they end up being something that is damaging. Anti-oxidants bond with those oxygen atoms before they can become ugly things. That’s why a steady supply of anti-oxidants can help to prevent future illness and maybe even heal illnesses now.

Alternative Energy

1 can lychees in light syrup

2 peaches

2 plums

8 ounces of coconut water or almond milk

Forget solar cells! This a sweet and creamy treat that will provide you with a ton of natural energy. There is so much healthy goodness, that it will keep your motor running for a long time.

Fibrous Fibrocity

2 ounces ginger

1 beet

2 plums

3 carrots

1 apple

Forget those fiber powders made from something that you would never eat. This is a sweet, delicious alternative that will provide with more than enough fiber to keep things moving. And it’s much better than some pasty powder.

Superstar Spotlight – Fiber – Fiber has been gaining increasing recognition for being the key to a healthy body. Fiber helps to cleanse toxins from the intestines. Also, as it passes through the digestive tract, it can draw off some of the toxins in the blood stream simply by being more attractive to the bad stuff.

C U Healthy

1/2 grapefruit

2 oranges

3 kiwis

There is enough vitamin C in here to keep you healthy for a

very long time. A single kiwi has twice your daily allowance. Everyone in the office sneezing, kids come home with runny noses, get that little tickle in your throat, drink this and stop that cold in its tracks.

The Complete Package

1 apple

1 pear

4 ounces cherries

1 kiwi, cut the stem ends but leave the skin on

This has everything you need. A,B,C,E and lots of fiber (that’s what the kiwi skin is for). There is a lot of everything in here. It’s nearly perfect as a drink will ever get. In fact, this and a couple of pieces of tofu for protein and you’re all set.

When you to start this amazing new diet I recommend the following simple formula so you can get the best out of your juicing diet.

You should concentrate on juicing Vegetables all of the recipes contained in my book show you what to do. However to get amazing taste you can add Ginger root, lemon, celery and parsley for added flavor. Mainly focus on vegetables, but do include some fruit. I find that an apple, pear or ginger root make a huge difference in the flavor to.

Include l or 2 root vegetables-such as carrots or beetroots (Beets) to add some additional flavor and provide you with antioxidants. I like to include either 2-3 large carrots or 2 small beets (l large). These tend to contribute a bit more natural sugar and a nice earthy flavor, adding a complexity to your healthy juice.

Add at least one leafy green vegetable. I’ve been happy with kale, broccoli and romaine lettuce, but many others work to.

Include one watery vegetable. Like a cucumber or celery, my favorite, and other watery vegetables. These help to dilute the strong flavors of the previous 3 ingredients. This can make a big difference in drinkability, while adding some nice flavor and additional vitamins. Remember you can also add filtered water to your juice.

Finally don’t forget to add a garnish to your juice. A small amount of ginger, lemon, mint, cayenne pepper or other herb can make your juice a real pleasure to drink while adding highly concentrated antioxidants.
